Icelandic’s reputed painter and author Hallgrimur Helgason who was twice nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize (101 Reykjavik and Rokland) is attached to the Danish comedy Comeback currently filming in Denmark for veteran producer Morten Kaufmann (The Hunt).

Helgason’s first screenplay originally written in English has been readapted for the Danish market by comedian/writer Jacob Tingleff and director Natasha Arthy (Fighter, Heartless). It’s the story of Thomas a former successful stand-up comedian who will do anything to get his career back on track. As he is rehearsing hard for a new show, his 15 year-old daughter whom he hasn’t seen in a while suddenly reappears, threatening the comeback he wants so badly. “It’s a stylish comedy with depth,” says Kaufmann. In the title roles are Anders W. Berthelsen (Superclásico) and rising star Sarah-Sofie Boussnina (1864, The Killing 3).

The DKK 16 million  (€2.1m) project is currently shooting on location in Copenhagen and Randers. Comeback is co-produced by Grimworks and Deluca Film with support from the Danish Film Institute, DR Filmklubben, Den Vestdanske Filmpulje and Rangers Kommune in collaboration with Beofilm Post Production and Filmgear. Nordisk Film will handle the domestic distribution in 2015.
