The Finnish projects Dark Christ by Klaus Härö, and Baby Jane based on Sofi Oksanen’s eponymous novel are among 13 titles competing for the new Eurimages Coproduction Development Award at Baltic Event’s co-production market in Tallinn (November 16-18, 2015).

Härö’s Dark Christ (Tumma kristus) is produced by Making Movies, behind the director’s Foreign Language Oscar’s entry The Fencer. His new project tells of an ageing man’s last attempt to live to the fullest his passion for art with the help of his grandson.

Baby Jane will be the established documentarist Katja Gauriloff’s feature film debut. Her company Oktober will produce the drama about the intricacies of falling in love.

Also vying for the €20,000 Eurimages award are the Norwegian thriller From Grace by Arild Østin Ommundsen (It’s Only Make Believe) produced by Gary Cranner’s Chezville, and the Swedish majority co-production North Pole by Simon Orlandini and Teresina Moscatiello, produced by The Chimney Pot. “Being associated to the Eurimages Co-production Development Award is a major step and recognition for us,” said Marge Liiske, Director of Baltic Event..

Other Nordic projects part of Baltic Event’s 14th edition include The Great Bear, second feature by Finnish writer/director Jan Forsström, presented at Baltic Bridge East by West, and the Finnish/Estonian horror film Bodom shown as a Work in Progress.

A total of 49 projects from the Baltics, Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and Ukraine will be introduced at Baltic Event organised in collaboration with the Black Nights Film Festival’s Industry@Tallinn programme.

Liiske is looking forward to welcoming more than 350 international delegates in Tallinn, just as Estonia is preparing for a new tax incentive for foreign productions. The Estonia Film Institute will be responsible for the €500,000 fund set aside by the Estonian government towards reimbursements of up to 30% of local production spend in the 2016 pilot year.
