Hans Rosenfeldt, (pictured) the Swedish creator/writer of the crime series The Bridge (Bron) is to bring his Nordic noir savoir-faire to London with the 8x60’ crime show Marcella commissioned by the UK commercial broadcaster ITV.

Rosenfeldt’s first exclusively created drama for the UK audience is produced by London-based Buccaneer Media, a company recently set up by producer Tony Wood (Coronation Street)  in partnership with Canada’s Cineflix Media. Rosenfeldt is co-creator of the series with Nicola Larder (Sky’s development exec on the French/UK The Tunnel) and executive producer.

Set in contemporary London, Marcella is the name of the main character, a British police officer in her late 30s who goes back to the Met’s Murder Squad after a 12 year career break, when her marriage has collapsed and she is isolated from her daughter at boarding school. . She is assigned to a murder case that she had worked on in 2003.

Steve November, ITV Director of Drama said: “Hans has created a compelling central character driven by rejection and intuition who is at crisis point in her personal life. The narrative is so unpredictable with suspicion falling on nearly all of the characters.” Filming is set to start in the autumn and casting will be unveiled in the coming months.

ITV just premiered on June 10 on its subscription channel ITV Encore the Swedish mystery thriller Jordskott that just picked up a Rockie Award for Best TV drama at the Canadian Banff World Media Festival.
