Launched at the last IDFA documentary film festival in Amsterdam to boost European documentary films for kids, RealYoung is a joint collaboration between IDFA EDN (European Documentary Network) and the Financing Forum for Kids Content in Malmö, supported by the Swedish Film Institute.

Annette Brejner, (pictured) Head of the Financing Forum for Kids says that while doing a research on children’s behaviour and film consumption on new platforms, she discovered that the content they ‘actively seek and absorb like’ sponges’ is documentaries’. Together with EDN’s Ove Rishøj Jensen and IDFA’s Meike Statema, Brejnen decided to set up a workshop where European documentary professionals would learn how to collaborate and together create challenging, innovative and entertaining documentaries for children. The three-part training lab had its first session at IDFA on November 26 where professionals were invited to discuss the challenges of co-producing and distributing docs for young audiences.

The second session will take place in Malmö from March 10-12 as part of Nordisk Film & TV Fond’s supported Financing Forum for Kids Content where selected projects will receive tutoring from experts.

The third session consisting of Online Pitching of the selected projects to leading financiers will be available via videoconference at www.edn.dk.
