TV4 Sweden has commissioned Bob Film the remake of the Finnish hospital drama series Nurses which has been a huge hit on YLE.

The original series  created by Petja Peltomaa for Finland’s Yellow Film & TV features four female nurses forced to deal with smug doctors, arrogant surgeons and out of touch administrators while saving patients lives. The two first seasons averaged more than one million viewers per episode on YLE TV2 and YLE Arena. A third season will air later this month and a fourth season has been commissioned by the Finnish pubcaster.

The Swedish remake -renamed Syrror- is filming right now in Stockholm, with Cecilie Sparre, Marall Nasiri, Janette Holmgren and Tanja Lorentzon in the main roles. Lisa Farzaneh and Tord Danielsson are directing. Bob Film’s managing director and producer Jan Blomgren told nordiskfilmogtvfond.com: “We are very excited to bring this very well written hospital series to Sweden. Basically all we had to do was translate the original script, get the help from a Swedish dialogue coach, medical experts and adapt it for the Swedish market. One of the reasons for the success of the Finnish series was its authenticity and the realism of the medical cases. Our version will definitely stick to that strong element”.

TV4’s Head of Drama and C More Josefine Tengblad said she is thrilled to commission TV4’s first medical drama. “This is a story about all the big and difficult questions: life, death, love and pain. It’s a world that we sincerely hope will move our audience to both tears and laughter”.

The first season budgeted at SEK 46 million (€5 million) is set to air on TV4 in the fall 2016 and a second season of ten episodes has been commissioned by the Swedish commercial channel.

World distributor Eccho Rights is representing the Swedish version of the show and has already pre-sold the ready-made to TV2 Norway and DR.

The first two Finnish seasons were licensed to Germany’s ProsiebenSat1, making Nurses the first Nordic series ever to air on a commercial broadcaster in Germany.

DLT in the UK has acquired remake rights.
