Top talents from Scandinavia’s biggest TV dramas are expected at the third Nordicana event in London (June 6-7) hosted by Arrow Films, one of the leading distributors of Nordic film and TV drama in the UK.

The promotional showcase coincides with the airing on BBC Four of the Danish series 1864.

Launched in 2013 to please and tease UK fans of Nordic noir and to open up their appetite for Nordic culture, Nordicana has widened its scope to non-crime shows and other foreign language quality TV dramas. “We still want to celebrate Nordic noir but are moving away slightly from the genre, hence the title Nordicana: Nordic Noir and Beyond,” explains Arrow Films’ marketing director Jonathan Sadler.

“With Nordicana, we want to tell Nordic creators of TV dramas, producers and sales agents, how we really feel about the Nordic noir brand,” adds Tom Stewart, Arrow Films’ Head of Acquisitions. “ We want to remind UK audiences not only of the great Nordic TV dramas that they watched two or three years ago, but also tell them of the wonderful series they can look forward to watching.”

Highlights of this year’s Nordicana include two on-stage interviews with the Queens of Nordic crime, Danish star Sofie Gråbøl, who will discuss The Killing and Fortitude, and her Swedish counterpart Sofie Helin who will take audiences behind the mind of Saga Nóren, ahead of BBC Four’s airing of The Bridge, Season 3.

Four brand new Nordic TV dramas will preview at Nordicana. Episode 1 of The Legacy, Season 2 (acquired by Sky Arts) will be introduced by cast members Trine Dyrholm, Jesper Christensen and Marie Bach Hanse, the final episodes of 1864 will screen on June 6 and 7, before its transmission on BBC Four and lead actors Jakob Oftebro, Jens Sætter Lassen, Søren Malling, Marie Tourell Søderberg and Sarah Sofie Boussina will take part in a Q&A; Jordskott’s lead actress Moa Gammel will discuss the Swedish mystery thriller with co-director Henrik Björn and producers Filip Hammarström and Johan Rudolphie, ahead of the series premiere on ITV Encore. Finally the opening episode of the Norwegian WW2 drama The Heavy Water War (renamed The Saboteurs for the UK market) will screen ahead of its transmission on More4.

Other highlights of Nordicana include a presentation of the book The Borgen Experience by Danish producer Camilla Hammerich and a panel discussion about The Origins of Nordic Noir chaired by expert author Barry Forshaw.
