In order to improve the circulation of Nordic films in the Nordic region and to support local distributors’ efforts to release non-national Nordic films, Nordisk Film & TV Fond has adjusted its cinema distribution support criteria.

New Guidelines and application details are available CLICK HERE.

The two key adjustments to the Fund’s Cinema Distribution Support are the following:

- As of March 13, distributors of non-national Nordic films can apply for the existing single film support OR for a new slate funding of two to three Nordic films.  The new slate funding replaces the existing Nordic High Five distribution scheme, which was restricted to one distributor in each of the five Nordic territories.

- To obtain support, individual films must have been well received at home OR must have significant audience potential within their target group, in one or more Nordic countries. Under the existing guidelines, individual films had to fulfil both conditions of being successful at home and appealing to audiences in at least one Nordic territory.

Nordisk Film & TV Fond’s CEO Petri Kemppinen said: “Our goal is to continue to improve the circulation of Nordic films across the Nordic region via top up financing measures. The Fund’s ‘Nordic High Five’ scheme initiated in 2009 has paved the way to our new slate funding model which offers every distributor access to our support. We have also adjusted our support criteria to give distributors more flexibility with their release strategy and time to plan ahead. From now on, distributors of Nordic films can apply for support even if their film has not yet opened domestically and it allows space for instance for simultaneous releases across the Nordic region. “

In 2014, Nordisk Film & TV Fond allocated a total of NOK 5,910,500 towards distribution. Altogether 32 individual films received distribution and dubbing support for a total amount of NOK 3,446,000, representing 4.8% of the Fund’s overall budget (3% in 2013). An additional NOK 1,500,000 was allocated to 12 films part of the Nordic High Five scheme.

Among last year’s Fund recipients are the Swedish film Force Majeure/Turist which received support for its theatrical release in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Norway, while the Danish film Salvation received backing for its theatrical release in Finland and in Sweden.

Besides its on-going cinema distribution support, Nordisk Film & TV Fond has introduced last April four new distribution and exhibition support measures: the Digital Distribution Support, Recruited Audience Screening Support, Nordic Film Marketing Support and Nordic Film Promotion for Exhibitors. Around NOK 1 million was spent in 2014 and another NOK 2.5 million is available until the end of 2016.
