Miso Film Opens Swedish Production Arm

Harms will produce high end TV dramas and feature films for the company co-owned by the giant group FreemantleMedia.

Founded a decade ago by Peter Bose and Jonas Allen, Miso Film already has a sister company in Norway, headed by Brede Hovland. “With a number of highly successful films and TV series in the Norwegian and Danish market, it was an obvious next step for us to move into Sweden,” said Bose. “The move allows us to expand our footprint in Scandinavia and build on our experience of working in Sweden through titles such as Beck and Wallander”.

The experienced Harms whose credits includes Bekas and Starring Maja produced for Sonet Film/SF brings with her a TV series already commissioned by TV4 Sweden and a feature film in development. The 8x45’ noir series Vik/Stubö based on Norway’s queen of crime Anne Holt’s best-selling novels, will be adapted by Emmy-award winning writing duo Peter Thorsboe and Mai Brostrøm (The Protectors, Unit One). Miso Film Sweden will be main producer and shooting in Stockholm is scheduled to begin in 2015. A Swedish cast will be announced at a later date. The feature film project 438 Days is based on the eponymous novel by Johan Persson and Martin Schibbye, shortlisted for the 2013 August Literary Prize. The title refers to the number of days the two journalists spent in an Ethiopian prison. The experienced scriptwriter Peter Birro (Waltz for Monica, How Soon is Now?) will handle the screen adaptation.

Miso Film’s other major TV projects include Ole Bornedal’s Danish historic love epic 1864 set to air on DR1 in the autumn, the Danish crime series Dicte Season 2, currently filming for TV2, with Jesper W. Nielsen as director, and Acquitted, a Norwegian character-driven drama based on an original idea by Siv Rajendram Eliassen (Varg Veum) and Anna Bache-Wiig. Geir Henning Hopland (Lilyhammer) is concept director. The series will start filming on April 24. FremantleMedia International handles sales on Dicte and Acquitted.
