The new original high end TV dramas Nobel by Per Olav Sørensen (pictured - The Heavy Water War) and Valkyrien by Eric Richter Strand (Varg Veum, Occupied) have received production support from the Norwegian Film Institute as well as returning seasons of the dramedy Dag and supernatural thriller The Third Eye.

The NOK68m (€7.1m) contemporary drama Nobel (8x45’) produced by Monster Scripted, is written by Mette Bølstad (The Half Brother) and Stephen Uhland. The storyline focuses on the Norwegian soldier Erling, who comes back home after serving in Afghanistan. He seems to settle in his family life until he stabs an Afghan man in the street of Oslo. What looks like a heroic action -he rescues a woman’s life - turns out to have dark implications and his actions will have heavy political consequences.

The 8x45’ series Valkyrien produced by Tordenfilm is set to start filming in August. Erik Richter Strand has teamed up with Thomas Seeberg Torjussen (co-writer of his film Sons) to pen this hybrid series mixing medical investigations à la House, thriller and love story elements. It’s the story of a doctor who runs an illegal underground clinic where he treats criminals and misfits, while trying to find a cure for his wife dying from an unexplained illness. Valkyrien is one of six international TV dramas picked up by the Berlinale European Film Market’s new Co-production Series.

Nobel and Valkyrien will air on NRK.

The second season of the supernatural thriller The Third Eye (10x45’) is directed by Gunnar Vikene (Here is Harold) and produced by Rubicon TV, while season 4 of the comedy drama Dag (10x23’) is again directed by Oystein Karlsen and produced by Viafilm. The two returning series will air on TV2 Norway.
