The annual industry event Nordic Film Market ((January 28 - February 1), sidebar to the 38th Göteborg Film Festival, is set to screen 22 finished films and 15 works in progress. A large number of debut films (16) will be introduced to the 400 industry delegates.

Cia Edström who runs Nordic Film market notes that many interesting debut films screening at the market are made by female directors, such as Long Story Short by May El Toukhy (Denmark) and Staying Alive by Charlotte Blom (Norway), both sold by TrustNordisk, the Dragon award nominees My Skinny Sister by Sanna Lenken (Sweden) and Women in Oversized Men’s Shirts by Yngvild Sve Flikke (Norway) as well as The World is Waiting by Mariken Halle (Norway/Sweden). Halle, El Toukhy and the Finn Antti Heikki Pesonen (Headfirst) were all previous Nordic Talents winners.

In the Works in Progress newcomers to watch out for include the Dane Bo Mikkelsen (Tabu). His first feature length chiller What We Become is sold by French sales agent Indie Sales. From Sweden, a name to keep in mind according to Edström is Jonas Selberg Augustén with The Garbage Helicopter produced by Bob Film. Award-winning directors that will take centre stage include Lisa Aschan (White People), Erik Gandini (Antonomous aka Lost in Perfection), Rúnar Rúnarsson (Sparrows) and Mads Mathiesen (The Model).

Highlights of New Nordic Markets include the second annual Nostradamus seminar focusing this year on changes in content creation. Trends in Nordic and international TV drama will be discussed by keynote speakers Andy Harries (producer of the UK Wallander), Tony Grisoni (writer of Southcliffe), Nuno Bernardo (Transmedia producer) and Head of Scripted Content at Norway’s Rubicon TV Anne Kolbjørnsen.

TV Drama Vision participants will be able to view the hottest upcoming TV series from the Nordic region such as the works in progress of Occupied and Acquitted (TV2 Norway) as well as clips of The Legacy 2 and Broke (DR), Mammon 2 (NRK), Tales of Silverhöjd (SVT), Oh Värmland (TV4), Northern Mishaps and Replacements (Nelonen), Hooked (YLE), Trapped (RUV) and The Homecoming (Channel 2).
