Scandinavia’s major content producer and distributor Nice Entertainment Group has hired veteran SVT executive Stefan Baron (pictured) to run their international co-productions. He will take on his new position in June.

Baron has held different positions at SVT over the last two decades, such as Head of Drama in Stockholm and most recently Co-production Executive. Among the hit Swedish series that he has been closely associated with are Real Humans and Death of a Pilgrim

Modern Times Group’s fully-owned Nice Entertainment Group encompasses 28 brands in 16 countries, including a handful of script content producers in Sweden, Norway and Finland such as Nice Drama (The 100 Year-old Man who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared, Thicker than Water), Strix Drama (Johan Falk), Moskito (Black Widows) and Monster (The Half Brother).

As Head of International Co-productions for Nice Entertainment Group, Baron will report to Mikael Wallén CEO of the group’s Scripted division. He will carry out pretty much the same duties as at SVT: overseeing the international financing of the group’s drama projects and long-term international collaborations.

“After many great years at SVT, as a producer and commissioner, it feels great and challenging to ‘switch sides’ and get the opportunity to work with a variety of broadcasters and aggregators with different needs, “ said Baron. “Nice Entertainment Group’s drama companies have many exciting projects in the pipeline and I look forward to being a part of the coming years’ productions and content development”. Among the projects in production are Strix Drama’s Johan Falk film series produced for TV4 Sweden and ZDF and conspiracy thriller Blue Eyes (Ögon blå) produced for SVT.

Besides his International Co-production efforts, Baron will serve as executive producer for Nice Drama. He will work with the company’s MD and producer Henrik-Jansson Schweizer and keep close ties with co-founder Patrick Nebout who just moved to Paris-based TV powerhouse Atlantique Productions. “Hopefully we will start collaborating with Atlantique in France and we already have some projects in the pipeline,” said Baron to nordiskfilmogtvfond.com
