Top filmmakers Lone Scherfig (pictured), Per Fly, Ole Christian Madsen, Thomas Vinterberg, Janus Metz and Dagur Kari are founding members.

"We have developed an innovative business model which will make it possible for European directors to develop and direct films in the US with support from funding bodies at home," said the producers in a statement on Monday. Films will be developed on all budget levels and equity financing has already been secured for the development of six projects-one from each director. "We are eager to join forces and develop films together, to share our energy and expertise - as well as challenge each other's craft and talent to ensure that every film reaches its full artistic and commercial potential," said the six colleagues.

So far Scherfig is the most experienced in English-language filmmaking with her films Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself, the Bafta nominated The Education and One Day. Thomas Vinterberg had his own go at internationally-oriented productions with It's All About Love and Dear Wendy; Dagur Kári's only trial so far was with the Paul Dano/Brian Cox vehicle The Good Heart. Ole Christian Madsen has just had a work experience in the US by directing several episodes of HBO's TV series Banshee.

Parallel to their internationally-oriented projects, all directors will continue to make films for the domestic market, be it for Nimbus Film, Zentropa, Meta Film or other companies.

Upcoming local films from some of the Creative Alliance partners include Rocket Man by Dagur Kári, starting production in Iceland this month, and Waltz with Monica by Per Fly, introduced as Work in Progress this week at Nordic Film Market in Gothenburg.
