The world leading event in cross-media Power to the Pixel: The Cross-Media Forum and its Pixel market, running October 7-10, parallel to the London Film Festival, is hosting this year a special Nordic Focus.

The event is backed by Nordisk Film & TV Fond, the Danish Film Institute, the Swedish Film Institute, the Norwegian Film Institute, the Finnish Film Foundation, the Icelandic Film centre and SWIM Programme. “It will be most interesting to find out the current trends of non-linear storytelling,” said Petri Kemppinen, CEO of Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

Around 40 Nordic creators, producers, private and public funders are attending, including the Danish producer of The Look of Silence Signe Byrge Sørensen (Final Cut for Real) with her cross media project On Screen Off Record, vying for the €6,000 Arte International Prize for the Pixel Market.

Directed by Rami Farah and co-produced by French/Palestinian Lyana Saleh, On Screen Off Record is an interactive web documentary inviting the user to dig into the story of the Syrian Revolution. “Cross-media is a totally new field for us which is why we’re very pleased to attend the Pixel Market to learn and get inspired”, said Sørensen. “Today documentaries have to look at all possible platforms to engage the audience.”

On Screen Off Record will be pitched to a panel of international experts from Denmark (New Danish Screen), Canada (NFB), the US (Tribeca, Virtual Pyedog) and the UK (The Guardian Multimedia) who will use the project as backdrop to discuss financing strategies and sustainable business model.

A total of nine Nordic projects –out of 32 from around the world- will be introduced in two separate panels at the Pixel Market Finance Forum Day (8 October) such as Annette K. Olesen’s Muleum (Denmark), Jesper Kurlanski’s Aeterna (Sweden), Timo Vuorensola’s Iron Sky the Coming Race (Finland) and Toby Genkel & Reza Memari’s Richard the Stork (Norway).

Liz Rosenthal, founder and CEO of Power to the Pixel said: The quality of the projects applying has developed exponentially over the five years of the Pixel Market and our selection demonstrates that engaging audiences across new media and multiple platforms plays an essential part of both established and emerging strategies to achieve impact and reach.” (Watch out for Liz Rosenthal’s interview to be published October 3).
