For their second outing on the Croisette, Scandinavian horror and genre specialists led by Iron Sky producer Tero Kaukomaa will hold meetings at 13 Square Mérimée, one block from the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. Producers taking part of the 2014 Nordic Genre Invasion (NGI) will be almost three times as many as last year.

Among the 16 companies listed are Finland’s BUFO that will bring White Point, a car chase movie on ice, Iron Sky creators Blind Spot Pictures, Nymphs ‘father’ Fisher King Production, and Norway’s Tappeluft Pictures behind Dead Snow 2-Red vs Dead

The NGI project was able to expand thanks to a €134,000 cash injection from the KreaNord programme, managed by the Nordic Culture Point. Laura Laaksonen who has been hired to run the initiative says: “Besides the Cannes push that includes a ‘Viking Invasion Party’ on Friday May 16, the joint brand NGI will be further developed as a VOD platform for all companies involved”.

In Cannes, the majority of genre projects introduced are in development phase and will be looking for co-financiers and distributors. Among those is Iron Sky, the Coming Race, sequel to the original sci-fi spoof movie directed by Timo Vuorensola. The €10m project produced again by Finnish producer Kaukomaa (Iron Sky Universe) with Germany’s 27 Film Productions, has as returning leading actors Julia Dietze, Stephanie Paul and Udo Kier. A campaign to raise between €50,000-€150,000 in equity crowd-funding via the Finnish equity service Invesdor.com was launched on Monday. More than $180,000 has already been raised in development money via IndieGoGo for the Iron Sky sequel.
