Scandinavian group Nordisk Film has taken a 25% share in the Danish mini-major Fridthjof Film headed by Ronnie Fridthjof (pictured). Both partners have also extended their collaboration encompassing now the theatrical distribution of Fridthjof’s films and the development of films and TV dramas.

Henrik Zein, CEO of Nordisk Film Production said that through the co-ownership of Fridthjof Film, the group will ‘contribute to the diversity of Danish films and make sure more quality Danish films are being produced’. The Egmont-owned film group has already a stake in Zentropa in Denmark, Solar Films in Finland and Maipo Films in Norway.

Ronnie Fridthjof said the stronger collaboration with Nordisk Film will increase the potential of his productions beyond Danish borders and his priority will be to co-produce TV dramas and feature length films with Nordic production partners.

Projects in Fridthjof Film’s pipeline include All for Three, final instalment in the successful comedy trilogy directed by Rasmus Heide. Miriam Nørgaard - one of the company’s main in-house producers - is currently working on a feature project based on Christian Jungersen’s best-selling novel Undtagelsen (The Exception) and several documentaries. Those include a new project by Andreas Kofoed (The Arms Drop) and I skyggen af en helt (Shadow of a Hero) in which director Laurits Munch Petersen (Over the Edge) sets out to discover how the death of his grandfather in the Spanish Civil War split up his family. Munch-Petersen co-wrote the script with Anders Østergaard (1989).

Fridthjof Film is also co-producer of the Norwegian TV drama project Valkyrien produced by Tordenfilm for NRK, and finishing the last three episodes of the supernatural series Heartless, Season 1, first TV drama to be presented at Berlin’s Generation sidebar.
