Distribution and securing a better access to audiences - wherever the are - were the focal points for Nordisk Film & TV Fond that injected NOK5.9 million into Distribution and Dubbing of Nordic films in 2014, more than twice the level of 2013 and 7% of its total funding budget of NOK 82.4 million.
Besides 32 films that received Distribution and Dubbing support (19 in 2013), three VOD platforms received funding through the Fund’s Digital Distribution Support scheme that was extended for another year, until the end of 2016. (see HERE for more information).
To reach out to new audiences - in particular young adults - the new development scheme NORDIC GENRE BOOST (click here) was launched in the autumn of 2014 and will run until the end of 2016.
Children and Young audiences - that continue to boost admissions for Nordic films, were again at the core of Nordisk Film & TV Fond’s support strategy and 19% of the Fund’s total grants were invested in the sector. The highest support of NOK3 million was allocated to the Danish fantasy adventure film The Shamer’s Daughter (Skammerens datter). Other significant children and youth films, the Crystal Bear winner My Skinny Sister (Min lilla syster) and Antboy: the Revenge of the Red Fury (Antboy: den Røde furies hævn) had top festival exposures.
On par with 2013, a total of 28 fictions films and 20 documentaries received funding in 2014, such as the 2015 Cannes official competition entry Louder than Bombs by Joachim Trier and Cannes Classic selection Ingrid Bergman-In Her Own Words (Jag är Ingrid) by Stig Björkman.
On the TV drama side, 14 projects were supported, against 10 in 2013. The Norwegian drama series Acquitted had a record breaking premiere for a local TV drama on TV2 Norway and five year record opening for a Nordic TV series on SVT. Other high profile Nordic drama series that attract strong interest from world broadcasters include the Icelandic TV drama Trapped (Ófærð) that received the largest NFTF grant of NOK 2.7 million in 2014, and the Danish financial crime series Follow the Money (Bedraget).
Nordisk Film & TV Fond’s own funding was secured for another five years, thanks to the new Agreement signed between the 17 partners: the Nordic Council of Ministers, the five Nordic film institutes/foundations and 11 Nordic TV stations.
