With 13 nominations including Best Film and Best Director, Grímur Hákonarson’s Rams is leading this year’s Icelandic Film & Television annual EDDA awards.

Sigurdur Sigurjónsson and Theodór Júlíusson who play the brothers at odds are nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively. The Netop Films production was Iceland’s 2015 best-selling local film and has collected 24 international awards since its world premiere in Cannes. 

Dagur Kári’s drama Virgin Mountain, winner of the 2015 Nordic Council Film Prize comes second with 12 nominations including Best Film, Director, Script and Actor (Gunnar Jónsson). The film was produced by RVK Studios.

Iceland’s other major auteur director Rúnar Rúnarsson has 11 nominations for his coming of age drama Sparrows including Best Film, Director, Script and Actor (Atli Óskar Fjalarson). The film has just collected a FIPRESCI award in Göteborg.

In the TV category the crime drama Case produced by Sagafilm is leading the EDDA nods with 8 accolades including Best TV Drama, Best Screenplay (Andri Óttarsson and Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson) and Best Actress (Steinunn Ólína Thorsteinsdóttir who just picked up a FIPA award).

Baltasar Kormákur’s Trapped produced by RVK Studios has 4 nominations including Best TV Drama and Music from the Oscar nominated Jóhann Jóhansson. The third series running for Best TV Drama is The Homecoming, also nominated for Best Screenplay (Björn Hlynur Haraldsson).

Four films are vying for Best Documentary including Rock Islandica produced by Markell, with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

The Fund is associated to a record 36 EDDA nominations.
