The main character of Ove featured in Fredrik Backman’s best-selling novel A Man Called Ove is going to be played on screen by Swedish star actor Rolf Lassgård (pictured). The dramedy produced by Tre Vänner has just received backing from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

A Man Called Ove is a heartfelt, poetic and humorous story about a grumpy old man who has given up on everyone including himself. But his life and negative approach to the world is put to the test when a new family moves in next door. The best-selling book has sold nearly 700,000 copies in Sweden and rights have been sold to more than 30 territories including the rest of Scandinavia, France, the UK and Germany where it is currently in the top charts.

Lassgård is well-known for the TV series Kurt Wallander, Sebastian Bergman, Death of a Pilgrim and for the feature films A Rational Solution and The Hunters. “Rolf Lassgård is one of the Swedish actors who has the whole wide registry that is required to interpret Ove’s universe,” said director Hannes Holm who will start filming in the spring 2015. Annica Bellander is producing for Tre Vänner/SF in cooperation with Nordisk Film, Film i Väst, SVT, support from The Swedish Film Institute among others.
TrustNordisk has just closed Benelux and Germany prior to the AFM.
