In its second year, the innovative distribution initiative backed by Creative Europe offers world audiences –in cinemas in the Netherlands, England, Italy, Canada or elsewhere- the opportunity to watch five selected European films and take part in interactive Q&A with directors via social media. Other partners are sales agents Fortissimo Films, Doc & Film International, Les Films du Losange and the VOD platforms Filmin and Festival Scope.

Producers and sales agents view this type of event-driven release as a promotional tool and audience-test screening that can help them decide on future distribution strategies. TrustNordisk CEO Rikke Ennis says: “This one off live cinema event allows us to check the film’s value on different platforms and we combine it with our usual pre-sales and sales activity."

The film directed by Mads Matthiesen for Zentropa Entertainment was pre-sold to territories including France, Poland and the Middle East and opens in Denmark on February 11.

The Garbage Helicopter by debut Swedish director Jonas Selberg Augustsén was produced by Bob Film Sweden. “This is fantastic opportunity for our film to reach an international audience. We feel honoured to have our films picked up by IFFR Live’s selection committee”, said Bob Film Sweden producer Andreas Emanuelsson.

The black and white road movie that has been compared to Jim Jarmusch and Aki Kaurismäki early works will be distributed in Sweden by TriArt.

Both The Model and The Garbage Helicopter will screen at Nordic Film Market in Göteborg.
