Just as her latest Danish feature A Second Chance opens wide in her home country, Danish director Susanne Bier (pictured) is preparing for her first TV drama: The Night Manager to be produced by the BBC in the UK with US partners AMC and The Ink Factory.
Hugh Laurie (House) and Tom Hiddleston (Midnight In Paris) will star in the six-part series, set to begin filming in the spring. The drama follows former British soldier Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston) as he navigates the shadowy recesses of Whitehall and Washington where an unholy alliance operates between the intelligence community and the secret arms trade. To infiltrate the inner circle of lethal arms dealer Richard Onslow Roper (Laurie), Pine must himself become a criminal.
The Night Manager will be the first television adaptation of a le Carré novel in more than 20 years, but several of his other bestsellers have been brought to the silver screen in recent years, such as Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy successfully directed by the Swede Tomas Alfredson.
The Night Manager will air on BBC One and AMC in 2016.
