The Chicago-based US independent distributor which uses its own cinema the Music Box as premiere venue for its films, has acquired several Scandinavian titles in the past such as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo that grossed over $10 million at US box office. Other Scandinavian pickups include Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg’s Max Manus, Magnus Marten’s Jackpot (to be released soon via Music Box’s genre label Doppelgänger Releasing) and Jan Troell’s The Last Sentence, opening in US cinemas on June 20.
No release date has been set yet for Of Horses and Men. Since its world premiere in San Sebastian where it picked up a Kutxa-Best Director award, the deadpan comedy drama about Icelanders’ love for horses has racked up more than 17 festival awards. The film represented by FilmSharks International has been sold to territories such as Japan (Magic Hour), France (Bodega Films), the UK (Axiom), CIS/Baltics (Maywin Films), Norway (Europa Film), and Sweden (Little Big). Denmark’s Angel Film will release it on June 19. In Iceland the film was last year’s biggest local hit.
