Nordisk Film & TV Fond is proud to be associated with three Nordic feature films that have been nominated for the 88th Academy Awards in Los Angeles: A War by Tobias Lindholm vying for Best Foreign Language Film, The Look of Silence by Joshua Oppenheimer running for Best Documentary and The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared running for Best Make Up and Hairstyling.

Other Nordic talents vying for an Oscar include Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, running for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl, and Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, nominated for his work on Denis Villeneuve’s thriller Sicario.

A War’s nomination at the Oscars marks Denmark’s 11th s attempt to win Best Foreign Language Film. In 2014, Tobias Lindholm was already associated to the Golden Statuette as co-writer of Oscar-nominated The Hunt directed by Thomas Vinterberg. A War is produced by Nordisk Film will be released in the US by Magnolia Pictures on April 8, 2016.

The Look of Silence is Oppenheimer and Final Cut producer Signe Byrge Sørensen’s second Oscar nomination for Best Documentary after The Act of Killing in 2014. The director second’ film focusing on Indonesia’s 1965-66 genocide has collected more than 40 international awards and The Look of Silence’s Oscar nod came the day after it won another three awards at New York’s Cinema Eye Awards for Best non-Fiction Film, Best Director and Best Producer. The US distributor is Drafthouse Films that run a strong Oscar campaign in 2014 for The Act of Killing. The film is currently playing in selected US cinemas.

The Swedish comedy hit The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared by Felix Herngren is offering make-up artists Love Larson and Eva von Bahr the first chance to walk up the red carpet at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on February 28. The film produced by Nice Drama and FLX will compete against…Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant.
The US distributor that will support the film’s Oscar nomination is Music Box Films that released The 100 Year Old Man in US cinemas last May.
