Martin Zandvliet’s (Applause) WW2 film Land of Mine (pictured) and Roar Uthaug’s The Wave – two titles backed by Nordisk Film & TV Fond - have received strong accolades at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and were picked up by the top US distributors Sony Picture Classics and Magnolia Pictures respectively.

The Danish film Land of Mine (Undersandet) produced by Nordisk Film Production was acquired by Sony Pictures Classics for the US and Latin America, following its world premiere at TIFF’s inaugural Platform section. “Every filmmaker’s dream is to become a ‘classic' at Sony Pictures Classics. We are overjoyed to have such an amazing US team behind the film.” said Nordisk Film’s producer Mikael Rieks, in Toronto until Sunday’s awards ceremony. Land of Mine was co-produced by Germany’s Amusement Park Films and K5 International handles world sales. The film opens in Denmark on December 3.

The Norwegian disaster movie The Wave (Bølgen) produced by Fantefilm was sold by TrustNordisk to Magnolia Pictures on the eve of the film’s international premiere in Toronto.  “The Wave is an incredibly accomplished action spectacular with phenomenal special effects, said Magnolia Pictures President Eamonn Bowles. “It’s also beautiful filmmaking with multi-dimensional characters and terrific acting. We’re excited that Norway had chosen the film to represent their country at the Oscars this year.” The Wave is now number one at the Norwegian Box Office with 526,847 admissions in its third week. The film will next screen at Fantastic Fest, Austin and at the BFI London Film Festival.
