SVT’s hit series Tusenbröder written and produced by Lars Lundström (pictured - Matador Film) is going to be remade for the US market by The Walking Dead producer Gale Ann Hurd (Valhalla Entertainment). Peter Stormare and Swedish producer Glenn Hurd who masterminded the Swedish/US deal are executive producers.

Nick Cassavetes is attached as director and exec producer. Lundström whose other Swedish hit series Real Humans is also being remade for the US told nordiskfilmogtvfond.com: “It all started when Glenn Lund and Peter Stormare who are running a small production company in L.A (Viking Brothers Entertainment) contacted me and Matador Film as well as SVT to see if we would let them do a try with Tusenbröder for the US market. We agreed and they pitched the story to Gale Ann Hurd who took it on for development together with Universal Cable Productions. I’ll be co-executive producer, which means that I will keep a close contact with the development process”.

“Nick Cassavetes and scriptwriter Cliff Dorfman [Entourage] have done a terrific job in adapting Tusenbröder to a gripping crime drama about family, hopes and dreams in the U.S today,” noted Lundström.

The US remake focuses on three old friends, partners in a construction business, who end up doing a criminal job to pay off debts. The original Swedish series starring Ola Rapace, Shanti Roney and Danilo Bejarano ran over three seasons on SVT between 2001 and 2006 and a feature spin off (Brothers-The Return) was made out of the final season.

Lundström said he is developing several projects as creator/writer with his partner in Matador Film Henrik Widman, as well as other projects with ‘great Swedish talents’. “We hope to be able to announce some of them during the spring,” he added.
