Nordic Council Film Prize

The five nominated films for the Nordic Council Film Prize 2010 were announced on Tuesday August 24, 2010.

The prestigious film award worth DKK 350.000 [€47.000] is shared between the director, the scriptwriter and the producer.

BACKGROUND AND GENERAL INFORMATION

In 2002, the year of the 50th anniversary of Nordic Council, the first Nordic Council Film Prize was given out. The winner was the Finnish Film Mies vailla menneisyyttä (The Man Without a Past) directed, written and produced by Aki Kaurismäki. The film was further nominated for an Oscar in the category, Best Foreign Language Film.

In 2005 the Nordic Council Film Prize became a permanent Prize.In 2005 the winner was the Danish film Drabet (Manslaughter) directed by Per Fly, scripted by Kim Leona, Dorte Høg, Mogens Rukov and Per Fly, and produced by Ib Tardini for Zentropa.

In 2006, the winner was the Swedish film Zozo (Zozo) by writer/director Josef Fares, produced by Anna Anthony for Memfis Film.

In 2007 the winner was the Danish Film Kunsten at græde i kor (The Art of Crying) directed by Peter Schønau Fog, scripted by Bo hr. Hansen and produced by Thomas Stenderup for Final Cut. The film is based on a novel by Erling Jepsen.

In 2008, the winner was the Swedish film, Du Levande (You, The Living), written and directed by Roy Andersson, and produced by Pernilla Sandström for Studio 24.

In 2009, the winner was the Danish film Antichrist, written and directed by Lars Von Trier, and produced by Meta Louise Foldager for Zentropa.

The criteria for winning the prize is the creation of an artistically original film, rooted in Nordic cultural circles, in which the various elements of the film unite to form a harmonious work.

The award of 350,000 DKK, (the same value as literature, nature, environment and music) is intended to be shared between the scriptwriter, director and producer.

The administrative costs are covered by the Nordisk Film & TV Fond and each Nordic country will appoint members of the jury. To read about previous winners, please also visit the Nordic Council of Ministers website www.norden.org/filmpris.
