Pernilla August’s epic love story A Serious Game adapted by Lone Scherfig from Hjalmar Söderberg’s classic novel has been selected for the Berlinale’s Special Gala Screenings. Sverrir Gudnason and Karin Franz Körlof (pictured) have the title roles in the feature drama produced by B-Reel Films with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond. The film is set to open in Sweden in September 2016. TrustNordisk handles sales.

A Serious Game is the second Nordic film selected for Berlin’s official programme, alongside Thomas Vinterberg’s A Commune screening in official competition.

As usual the kids and youth Generation programme has a strong line up of films from the North and this year a total of three shorts, three feature length films and a minority co-production have been selected including three titles backed by the Fund. Those include the Norwegian stop motion animation film Louis & Nolan-The Big Cheese Race running for a Crystal Bear at Generation Kplus together with the previously announced Swedish film Siv Sleep Astray. Denmark is represented in the Short Generation KPlus sidebar by the animation film series Lili directed by Siri Melchior
