The US distributor is among 20 world territories who have acquired Pernille Fischer Christensen’s biopic about Astrid Lindgren, sold by TrustNordisk.

Music Box Films President William Schopf said: “We are looking forward to bringing the inspiring yet untold story of one of Sweden’s most beloved writers to U.S. audiences.” The US distributor has handled several Scandinavian films in the past including A Man Called Ove, and The Fencer.

Becoming Astrid focuses on the early years of the celebrated children’s author Astrid Lindgren and the events and influences that shaped her to become the icon she is today. The film received positive reviews in Berlin where Fischer Christensen and actress Alba August were on hand to attend the film’s world premiere at the festival’s Special Gala section.

Other foreign territories that will release the Swedish film include Spain (Caramel Films), Poland (Aurora Films), Israel (Shoval Film Production), Germany, Austria, Switzerland (DCM), China (DD Dream), Benelux (September Film), the Baltics (Estin Film), Russia CIS (Capella film) and the Czech Republic/Slovakia (Cinemart).

Nordisk Film handles Scandinavian rights. The Swedish release is set for September 2018.

Becoming Astrid was produced by Avanti Film’s Anna Anthony and Maria Dahlin and Nordisk Film Production’s Lars G. Lindström, with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond among others.
