In 2011 Ali Abbasi first caught the eye of Nordic professionals and film students attending Nordic Talents, with his graduation short film from the National Film School of Denmark M for Markus.

The director will be back this year with his supernatural drama Border one of the hottest films at the last Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Un Certain Regard Prize and Best Sound.

Following the film screening on Thursday September 6, Abbasi will discuss his work, alongside producers Piodor Gustafsson (Spark Film & TV, Sweden) and Nina Bisgaard (Meta Film, Denmark). The conversation will be moderated by Valeria Richter, Copenhagen-based creative producer and screenwriter.

The Border screening and discussion are among the highlights of the 18th Nordic Talents, organised by Nordisk Film & TV Fond in collaboration with the National Film School of Denmark, host of the networking event.

The Pitch competition whereby 15 selected projects will vie for the NOK 250,000 Nordic Talents Pitch Prize and NOK 50,000 Special Mention will be judged this year by a panel of professionals comprising Finnish director Marja Pyykkö, Norwegian director Izer Aliu, Danish animator/director Jørgen Lerdam, the Swedish Film Institute Feature Film Commissioner and former Zentropa Sweden CEO Madeleine Ekman, as well as UK journalist and Nordic correspondent to Screendaily Wendy Mitchell.

The Producers’ Pitch from 20 established Nordic producers will be monitored by HBO Nordic Commissioning Editor Hanne Palmquist.

Nordic film producers who wish to participate can contact: Nordic Talents Project Manager Ann-Sophie W. Birkenes (ann-sophie@nordiskfilmogtvfond.com).

Deadline to apply to the Producers’ Pitch is June 25.

Nordic Talents is an essential stepping stone for Nordic film students who have the opportunity to connect with their Nordic peers and top industry people, and for financiers and producers who can discover the next Ali Abbasi, Gustav Möller, Hlynur Pálmason, Lea Glob or Maria Bäck.
