A hit at home where the show closed with nearly 3 million viewers across Denmark, Norway and Sweden, The Bridge season 3 is also triumphing in the UK. Record viewers are following it on BBC Four and on Wednesday the show picked up Best Returning Series and Best Actress for Sofia Helin at the C21 Drama Awards in London.

The Bridge (Bron/Broen) Season 3 beat the popular alternatives The Walking Dead, The Returned and The Fall, while Helin’s performance was preferred by the 70 drama commissioners who cast their votes, to Gilliam Anderson in The Fall, Sharon Rooney in My Dad Fat Diary, Constance Zimmer in Unreal and Moa Gammel in Jordskott

Launched as a double bill on BBC Four on November 22, with the backing of rave reviews in the leading UK newspapers, the show had the biggest UK audience on record with 1.8 million viewers for the opening episode and 1.5 million for the second. This compares to an average one million viewers for season 1 and 1.62 million for season 2.

Meanwhile in Scandinavia the 10 part crime show created by Hans Rosenfeldt reached its finale this week. On Sunday night 1.5 million Swedes, 881,000 Danes and on Monday 539,000 Norwegians watched the closing episode where Saga Norén’s humanity triumphs.

According to SVT, the Swedish and Danish creators and financiers led by producers Filmlance International (SE) and Nimbus Film (DK) are discussing a possible fourth season.
