The 12x30’ dramedy produced by Monster Scripted for NRK focuses on three girls in their early 20s trying their best to break into their careers and adulthood.

Germany’s Studio Hamburg Distribution And Marketing (SHDM) has acquired the series for ARD’s channel ONE and for ARD/ZDF’s new specialised streaming service FUNK targeting the 14-29 years-old.

Launched on October 1st, the free-online service will offer Young & Promising on its website, on social media platforms and on smartphones and tablets via the FUNK app.

In the UK, the series will be shown on Channel Four’s VOD service Walter Presents, home to many Nordic TV dramas such as Heartless, Case, and Thicker than Water. Curator Walter Iuzzolino said: “Young and Promising combines the warmth and anarchic humour of Girls with the originality and emotional honesty of the very best Nordic fare.”

In France, it’s Canal+ that has secured rights for its own SVOD platform CanalPlay.

Laurent Boissel, Joint CEO and co-founder at APC said: “VOD platforms and broadcasters all over the world continue to look for quality drama targeted at millennials. With its strong female leads and a tone that resonates with our time, Young and Promising will appeal to this very coveted audience. It is exciting for us as a company involved in international productions that dramas filmed in non-English language are now starting to find their home on a global stage.”

Young & Promising first aired on NRK in the autumn 2015 and averaged 672,000 viewers per episode. Writer/creator Siri Seljeseth who plays Elise (one of the three girls) had the idea for the original show and has written the returning season, together with Birgitte Ruustad Wegener and Mads Løken.

Season 2 is directed again by Eirik Svensson and Bård Fjulsrud for Monster Scripted and handled by APC. APC will continue selling the show at MIPCOM, alongside the upcoming Norwegian thriller Valkyrien, French comedy series A Very Secret Service and procedural drama Contact among others.
