Rolf Lassgård will reprise his role as crime detective Erik Bäckström in the Swedish TV series.

The crime series is a spin-off of the 1996 BO hit The Hunters (Jägarna) and its 2011 sequel False Trail (Jägarna 2). The head-writers are Björn Carlström (who wrote the two original films) and Stefan Thunberg (False Trail, Hamilton, In the Interest of the Nation). The TV show will be directed by Jens Jonsson (Easy Money III Life Deluxe). Filming will start this fall in North Bothnia.

Swedish star actor Rolf Lassgård said: “The two previous feature films and the character Erik Bäckström are very close to my heart. Erik is a very complex police officer, with a tendency to end up in conflict with himself as well as with his colleagues within in the police force even if friendship or family ties are threatened. I am really looking forward to playing him again. It will be like meeting with an old friend.”

SF Studios’ Head of TV & Web Production Johan Hedman said: ”It feels great to go ahead with a follow-up original series on The Hunters and we are extremely happy and proud that Rolf Lassgård will once again play the lead. SF Studios’ investment in TV drama is in an expansive and exciting stage with crime series like Alex and The Lawyer in production. With The Hunters, we will further strengthen our position as a leading producer of high-end TV drama.”

The show is produced by SF Studios and Harmonica Films (Per Janérus, Björn Carlström), in co-production with C More/TV4 and Filmpool Nord. The Hunters will premiere exclusively on the Bonnier-owned streaming service C More in 2018 and then on TV4.
