The original story is co-written by Alexander Kantsjö (Jordskott), Ola Norén (Kontoret) and Roland Ulvenius. Two days before Christmas, Andrea (Catherine Walker) is sent by Benthos Oil to investigate a fatal accident on a North Sea rig. Met by an inexplicable wall of silence from the crew, Andrea starts to suspect something is very wrong – and when a hurricane slams into Rig 45, cutting off all communications with the outside world, the crew find themselves battling both the elements and a shockingly devious killer.

Additional actors include Sweden’s Björn Bengtsson (Thicker than Water) and Iceland’s Joni Johannsson (The Oath, Fortitude). The series is directed by Per Hanefjord (TV3’s Black Widows, Ängelby) and produced by Mopar Media Group AB for MTG’s Viaplay. ITV Studios handles world distribution.

Jakob Mejlhede, MTG EVP and Head of Programming and Content Development said: “Trapped on a creaking oil rig in a storm with a seemingly unstoppable murderer, Rig 45 combines high waves with even higher tension. Incredible set design, great writing and an amazing ensemble cast will push your nerves to the very edge."

The show is currently filming in Dublin and will premiere across the Nordics on Viaplay in the summer 2018.

Rig 45 is the latest project among a flurry of original drama content commissioned by the Nordic streaming service, including Hidden, Wisting, Pro’s and Con’s, Straight Forward, Conspiracy of Silence, and Embassy Down. The most viewed Nordic show on Viaplay this fall and third most popular drama in 2017 was the gritty crime show Alex produced by SF Studios.
