The eight part series The Conductor is based on Camilla Grebe and Paul Leander Engtröm’s first novel in the ‘Moscow noir’ trilogy, adapted for the small screen by Finnish screenwriter Aleksi Bardy, in collaboration with Mia Ylönen, Mikael Håfström, Max Barron and Piodor Gustafsson.

Studiocanal handles world distribution.

The story is set in the murky waters of the financial world of post-communist Russia at the turn of the millennium. The thriller drama revolves around Tom Blixen, played by Adam Pålsson (Before We Die), a Swedish investment banker who believes he can handle corruption and power. But after a risky deal, he has to fight politicians, oligarchs, their violent defenders, as well as a different opponent: himself - as he is gradually confronted with ghosts from his past.

Other cast members are Linda Zilliacus (Thicker than Water, Evil) and Christopher Wagelin (The Restaurant, Real Humans).

Episodic directors are Johan Brisinger (Suddenly) and Mårten Klingberg (Beck).

Håfström said: "This is my first Swedish project in 15 years, and it has been a great pleasure to reconnect with the talented Adam Pålsson, who had a small part in Evil [the director’s Oscar-nominated film], as well as with other Swedish and international actors."

"I am Swedish and will always have a Swedish perspective, despite all years abroad. So to work with a Swedish character in an international environment - a man who left his country, but not his "Swedishness" – makes this an even more personal project, states the director.

Josefine Tengblad, Head of Drama at C More/TV4 said: “We are extremely proud of our new series The Conductor which from the outset has a strong quality and authenticity.”

The series is produced by Gustafsson’s Black Spark & TV, in association with Canal+ Poland, Lithuania’s Dansu Film, Finland’s Helsinki Filmi, Bonnier Broadcasting, with support among others from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

The exclusive premiere on the Scandinavian screaming service C More is set for January 2019, to be followed by a linear launch on TV4.
