The Göteborg Film Festival will award the first Nordic TV Prize for Best Script. The prize is funded by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

The Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize and its SEK 200,000 cash award will be handed out to the scriptwriter(s) on February 2, 2017, during Göteborg’s TV Drama Vision (February 1-2).

The Nordic TV dramas that will compete for Best Script will be selected by a jury of industry professionals among five-seven high premium shows from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The nominees will be announced on January 10, 2017, together with the full programme of the Göteborg Film Festival.

Jonas Holmberg, artistic director at the Göteborg Film Festival said: “Nordic TV drama maintains a high international level, so it’s a must for the Festival to continue to focus on drama series. It’s particularly exciting that the prize goes to the scriptwriter, since strong scripts are the engines driving successful TV shows. And in the Nordic countries we have many interesting scriptwriters who deserve more attention.”

Petri Kemppinen, CEO at Nordisk Film & TV Fond said: “We are the top financier of many cool, boundary-breaking Nordic TV drama series. By awarding this prize we want to highlight the best skills and imagination needed in creating characters and story layers that hook audiences. The Göteborg Film Festival is long-sighted and dynamic. They introduced their platform TV Drama Vision long before others, so it was obvious for us to choose them as partners.”

The TV Drama Vision organised by the Göteborg Film Festival is an international annual seminar showcasing TV drama in the Nordic countries with a global outlook, including discussions of current trends, presentations of works in progress and a comprehensive overview of upcoming Nordic TV-series as well as master classes from key industry professionals. It attracts nearly 300 international professionals each year.

The TV Drama Vision is held parallel to the Göteborg Film Festival that will celebrate this year its 40th anniversary from January 27-February 6, 2017.
