The Danish ‘Producer on the Move’ Mikkel Jersin (pictured) who co-produced for Nimbus Film the festival hits Louder than Bombs, Sparrows and Virgin Mountain, is attending Cannes for the first time with his new company Snowglobe co-headed by Eva Jakobsen and Katrin Pors.

In less than a year, the three up and coming producers have put together an impressive line up of projects by international talents, using their individual connections and ties throughout the world. While Jersin and Jakobsen are strongly grounded in Europe, Katrin Pors who has worked 15 years as producer and line producer in Latin America brings a unique exotic flavour from that region to Snowglobe. “Katrin will help us build bridges between Latin America and Denmark,“  Jersin told nordicfilmandtvnews.”

The auteur-driven Snowglobe’s ambition is to produce films mixing unique talents and cultures, with a strong potential on the international market.

In terms of volume, the company will produce one big Danish film, two-three international co-productions and one smaller edgy film per year. The mid-term strategy is to add a TV drama production arm to build a sustainable business.

“These are times of change and for a small company like ours it’s important to spread our risks. Our advantage is that we can adapt easily, unlike bigger companies that have an established business model,” notes Jersin.

PROJECTS
The company’s most advanced projects are all co-productions.
- The next Joachim Trier film  Thelema (workig title) is produced by Motlys in Norway with Memento Films in France. Principle photography is slated for autumn 2016.

-The Untamed is directed by the acclaimed Mexican director Amat Escalante who won Best Director in Cannes 2013 for Heli. Cinematographer Manuel Alberto Claro (Melancholia) and editor Jacob Schulsinger (Force Majeure) have boarded the project to be delivered in the summer. Match Factory is selling internationally and French Le Pacte is co-producing and selling worldwide. The film was supported by the DFI and Øst for Paradis has picked up Danish distribution rights.

- Godless is a Bulgarian/Danish/French co-production by former Cinéfondation director Ralitza Petrova. It’s the story of a nurse who traffics ID cards stolen from dementia patients. The DFI has backed the project and 41 Shadows will handle Danish distribution.

On the Danish front, Snowglobe has several projects in development, starting with the ambitious Danish/Korean war drama Jutlandia to be directed by TV drama expert Kasper Gaardsøe (The Protectors, The Team). Jersin will be actively looking for Korean and Malaysian partners in Cannes.

Other Danish projects include The Suicide Tourist by Jonas Arnby and Rasmus Birch (Animal Dreams) the doc hybrid The Danish Arab by Omar Shargawi, an apocalyptic comedy by Ask Hasselbalch (whose Antboy film series where produced by Eva Jakobsen for Nimbus Film), and the coming of age drama Brakland by Martin Skovbjerg. “We’re trying to find new voices in Danish film and Martin is one of the new talents that we believe in,” concludes Jersin.
