The two-day event Best of Norden (October 27-29) at Stockholm’s Filmhuset is an opportunity to celebrate Nordic culture and the Nordic Council prize nominees.

On October 29, the winner of the coveted 2019 Nordic Council Film Prize will be announced at an award ceremony in Stockholm, in conjunction with the Session of the Nordic Council, alongside prizes for literature, children and young people’s literature, music and environment.

As a prelude to the awards ceremony in Stockholm, the fifth ‘Best of Norden’ will gather some of the 2019 Nordic Council Prize nominees and offer a new chance for audiences to watch the nominated films with English subtitles, as well as Nordic short documentaries and Cinematek’s Choices.

On Sunday October 27, the Swedish nominated documentary film Reconstructing Utøya by Carl Javér will kick start the event. The screening will be followed by a discussion on the theme ‘How to deal with a trauma’. Javér who won Best Director and Best Documentary at this year’s Guldbagge awards, will be on stage together with journalist Marte Michelet and Gaute Børstad Skjervø, politician and survivor of the Utøya massacre of July 22, 2011. The four other nominated films Queen of Hearts by May el Toukhy (DK), Aurora by Miia Tervo (FI), A White, White Day by Hlynur Pálmason, and Blind Spot by Tuva Novotny, (NO) will screen on Monday 28 October.

Best of Norden is co-organised by the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Nordic Council and the Culture Agency, on behalf of the Nordisk Film & TV Fond, in collaboration with the Nordic Museum, the Norden Association and the Swedish Film Institute.

Best of Norden closes the promotional tour of the Nordic Council Film Prize Nominations that started in Haugesund. Other stopovers for the nominated films and their teams include Helsinki’s Love & Anarchy (September 19-28), BioParadís in Reykjavik (October 15-20), and Cinemateket Oslo (October 25-27) and Grand Copenhagen (October 27).
