Exclusive: The Nordic distribution company will launch five new shows in Cannes including Iceland’s female led drama comedies Happily Never After and Ordinary People.

Helene Aurø, REinvent’s Sales and Marketing Director said: “Our MIPTV slate is very eclectic. We’re trying to have Nordic series across different genres, so that they won’t compete with each other and to offer content for all buyers and platforms.”

  • Happily Never After (6x45’) is created by Stella Blómkvist’s co-writer Nanna Kristín Magnúsdóttir who co-directs and plays the title role.

Karen (38), is marriage counsellor and mother of three. When she discovers her husband’s infidelities, she must say good-bye to her utopian vision of the perfect family. Producer Skúli Malmquist of ZikZak Filmworks (And Breathe Normally) says it’s a drama with light-hearted moments and tragi-comic situations.” The series produced for RÚV is set to air in the fall 2019.
  • Ordinary People (12x25’) produced by Baldvin Z’s Glassriver for Iceland’s TV channel and streamer Síminn was nominated this year for an Edda award-Best Icelandic TV drama of the year. Up-and-coming actresses Vala Kristin Eiriksdottir (Woman at War) and Júlíana Sara Gunnarsdóttir are co-creators and star. Fannar Sveinsson directs.

The show follows the friends from acting school Juliana and Vala whose lives take different paths, until they get a chance to co-host a prime time talk show. The show premiere on Síminn in the fall 2018.

REinvent will also introduce for the first time at a market two premium long running series:

  • The Peacemaker (10x52’) is one of Finland’s most ambitious international series set to start filming in May. AJ Annila directs from a script by producer/co-creator Johanna Enäsuo and writer Eriika Etholén.

The story set between Turkey, Syria and Spain tells of the world of peacemakers, international arms trade dealings and the deep-layered relationships with people in power. The A-list cast includes Irina Björklund (Bordertown), Louise Peterhoff (Blue Eyes, Borgen) and Kardo Razzazi (Arne Dahl, Alex). The Peacemaker is produced by MRP Matila Röhr Productions for Yle. Broadcasters that have pre-bought the show include SVT, DR, NRK, RÚV as well as Lumiere Group in Benelux.

  • Trom (8x45’) is the first ever drama series from the Faroe Islands. The crime show is adapted from Jógvan Isaksen’s crime novels by screenwriter Torfinnur Jákupsson. The central character is journalist Hannis Martinsson who returns to his native Faroe Islands to investigate the murder of an animal rights activist, risking his life on the trail of a spectacular story. The KYK Pictures project co-produced by REinvent was pitched at Berlin’s Co-Pro Series in February.
