The Danish and Swedish TV dramas are among 12 international high end series to be introduced to more than 450 world buyers on April 2 in Cannes.

For its second edition MIPDrama Screening’s organisers Reed MIDEM have split the series in two categories: Works in Progress and Full Episodes, with Rides Upon the Storm and Veni Vidi Vici being showcased in each respective category.

The screenings at the Grand Auditorium at the Palais des festivals will be open not only to top international buyers and the media but also producers, agents and other executives who will be able to select their favourite show.

Besides the audience award, a jury of international TV critics and another jury of TV professionals will select the best show in the Works in Progress and Full Episode categories.

This year’s Grand jury members include Lars Blomgren, Chairman Scripted Exchange, Endemol Shine Group, Producer and co-founder of Filmlance International, Frank Spotnitz, Executive Producer and Writer, (The X-Files), Virginie Brac, Screenwriter (Engrenages), Ran Tellem, Head of International Content Development for Mediapro and Executive Producer (Homeland) and Jalil Lespert, Director and Actor, (Yves Saint Laurent).

“The MIPDrama Screenings showcase is back with an impressive line-up of drama series that once again illustrates the diversity and quality of global output in the field. In the lead up to MIPTV, this will give buyers exclusive insight into the best new series being launched at the market,” said Laurine Garaude, Director of the Television Division at Reed MIDEM.

Rides Upon the Storm (10x60’ x2) is created by Adam Price (Borgen) who co-wrote the series with Karina Dam and Poul Berg. Kaspar Munk is concept director. Inspired by the myth of Abel and Cain, the series explores the concept of good and evil and the spiritual journey of ‘finding one’s way (Herrens veje is the Danish title) and seeking a greater meaning of life. The story centres on a family of priests in the Church of Denmark, the parent Johannes (Lars Mikkelsen) and Elisabeth (Ann Eleonora Jørgensen) and their two sons August (Morten Hee Andersen) and Christian (Simon Sears).

The drama series is produced by DR Fiction’s Camilla Hammerich, in co-production with ARTE and SAM Lefrançais, in association with StudioCanal that handles world sales. It was supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
Season 1 will premiere on DR1 in the fall 2017 and Season 2 in 2018.

Veni Vidi Vici (10x35’) is created and directed by Rafael Edholm who also holds one of the title roles. Santiago Gil (Torpederna 2) is co-writer. The show was produced by HandsUp Stockholm for Viaplay Nordic. Thomas Bo Larsen (Follow the Money) plays a pretentious movie director with higher ambitions than he can deliver, who gets his worst reviews ever. He starts reviewing his own values and life with his wife and teenage daughter. Persuaded by his family, he agrees on taking a job at his father- in-law’s pig farm, until one day, he receives a call from an old friend, a producer in Hollywood (Edholm).

The series explores the consequences of Karsten Daugaard’s decision to take up a job in the adult entertainment business and forces him into a double life that endangers his entire family. Edholm said: “Viaplay has shown tremendous courage to bet on a series with such a content and edge, and the fact that MIP has acknowledged our courage makes it even more exciting.” Veni Vidi Vici will premiere exclusively on Viaplay across the Nordics on April 13, 2017.
