Series based on an original idea by Adam Price and Jesper Malmrose opened strongly last week on Denmark’s TV2 Charlie.

The ten-part series Something’s Rockin’ (Mercur) created by Søren Frellesen and Jesper Malmose is loosely based on the true story of Radio Mercur, a revolutionary pirate radio station founded by a small group of music-loving dreamers in the late 1950s. At a time when rock ‘n’ roll was banned by the two government-run radio channels, and nobody had yet dared to challenge this state monopoly, the drama follows three young protagonists as they throw caution to the wind to give the people the pop music that they crave.

In the title roles are Andreas Jessen (You and Me Forever), Neel Rønholt (Borgen) and Jon Lange (The Killing.

The series was produced by SAM Productions for TV2 Charlie, in co-production with Sweden’s TV4, support from the DFI’s Public Service Fund and FilmFyn.

The opening episode was watched by 621,000 Danes for a 23% share on March 6 and set an all-time viewing record for TV2 Charlie, exceeding the channel’s own expectations.

Something’s Rockin’ is among three Danish TV dramas produced or co-produced by Studiocanal’s affiliate SAM Productions, that will premiere at Cannes’s MIPTV unspooling April 3-6, 2017.

The ten- part drama Ride Upon the Storm (Herrens Veje) created by Price has been selected for the MIPDrama Screenings on Sunday April 1st. The faith-related series produced by DR Drama in co-production with ARTE France, SAM le Français and support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond will premiere on DR1 in the fall.

In the main roles are Lars Mikkelsen, Ann Eleonora Jørgensen, Morten Hee Andersen and Simon Sears.

The thriller Below the Surface (Gidseltagningen) produced for Kanal5/ Discovery Networks Denmark and co-produced by Germany’s ZDFneo had its world premiere at the Berlinale Special Series. Kasper Barfoed is creator, head writer and concept director of the hostage thriller series based on an idea by Price and Søren Sveistrup. The series will premiere on Kanal5 this spring, then on Kanal5 Sweden, TV2 Norway and RUV.
