The director won three awards in Valladolid (Best Film, Director and Screenplay) for The Nile Hilton Incident.

“Are you kidding? Oh my God…" said the director about the three Valladolid film awards to The Nile Hilton Incident, speaking from L.A. where he is filming an episode of Westworld 2.

The Valladolid International Film Festival which closed last weekend, is one of Spain’s most important festivals for independent cinema. In his live video transmission, Saleh said he was honoured of being part of a festival that has given awards to creators such as Ingmar Bergman and Ridley Scott.  Santiago Tabernero, Spanish director and member of Valladolid’s International Jury said the decision to hand out three awards to The Nile Hilton Incident was ‘absolutely unanimous'. “We have been fascinated by the film,” he stressed.

The Swedish noir produced by Kristina Åberg (Atmo) continues its outstanding world tour that started last January in Sundance with a Grand Jury Prize. The film about police corruption in Egypt set against the 2011 Tahrir Square protests of 2011, has been a huge success in France where it sold more than 400,000 tickets via Memento Film Distribution, the best results for a Swedish film since the Millennium film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in 2009.

The film was sold to more than 40 territories by The Match Factory and is currently playing in Germany (Port au Prince Pictures) and in the US (Strand Releasing).  In Sweden and Denmark, the film distributed by Scanbox has sold respectively 23,612 and 3,168 tickets so far.

Meanwhile Tarik Saleh is working in the US on HBO’s break-out sci-fi western Westworld season 2, set to premiere in the spring 2018.
