Swedish actress Aliette Opheim is among the new faces starring alongside Dennis Quaid and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson in the final season of Sky Atlantic’s thriller.

The UK arctic thriller produced by Fifty Fathoms, returns for a final four episodes, filmed not in Iceland, like the previous seasons, but on location in Svalbard, Norway, where creator/writer Simon Donald found his original inspiration for the series. Interiors were built in Bristol’s Bottle Yard Studios.

In season 3 Opheim who starred in top Scandinavian shows Thicker than Water, Black Lake, as well as the US thriller series Patriot, plays a key role as the glamorous Elsa Schental, a mysterious stranger from the US, whose fate becomes inextricably linked with Michael Lennox’s (Dennis Quaid).

The fisherman is drinking himself to death, following the death of his wife and Elsa will offer him some hope of redemption. Another Swedish actor making his first appearance in the show is newcomer Set Sjöstrand (Nexus Dawn). The young actor plays police officer Oby, sent by Oslo authorities to investigate the case of parasites that tore down the remote arctic community of Fortitude in season 2. Sjöstrand ‘s investigating side kick is Myklebust, played by German actress Maria Schrader.

Other Nordic cast members include Iceland’s Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (Trapped), Joi Johansson (Arctic Circle), Denmark’s Sofie Gråbøl (The Killing) and Norway’s Rune Temte (Torpederna, The Last Kingdom).

Fortitude season 3 premiered yesterday Thursday December 6 on Sky Atlantic and Now TV. Season 2 had 1.4 million viewers per episode. Season 1 was Sky Vision’s bestselling programme.
