Swedish films 2017 market share increases to 17.23% from 14.8% (2016) and posts 2.9 million admissions, against 2.6 million in 2016.

According to Filmägarnas kontrollbyrå, two comedies directed by the brothers Felix Herngren and Måns Herngren were the local favourites: Solsidan-The Movie which sold more than 780,000 tickets in less than a month and beat Star Wars: the Last Jedi for a first place at the Top 10, and The 101 Year-old Man Who Skipped the Bill and Disappeared (398,456 admissions), released late 2016.

Other Swedish films that had solid results are Karin Fahlén’s comedy All Inclusive (297,749), Janus Metz’s biopic Borg/McEnroe (241,404), the family animated film Bamse and the Witch’s Daughter by Maria Blom and Christian Ryltenius (206,828), Amanda Kernell’s drama Sámi Blood (181,981) and Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’or winning The Square (170,986).

Besides Solsidan the Movie and The 101 Year-old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared, the rest of the Top 10 was dominated by Hollywood films. Walt Disney scored with five titles among the top selling films of the year.

General admissions remained at the average level of the five last years at 16.8 million, down 4% from 2016. The most successful Nordic film was the Norwegian stop motion animated film In the Forest of Hucky Bucky (50,803 admissions) and the best-selling documentary was the music film about pop-duo Marcus & Martinus-Together (70,029 admissions).
