US cable and satellite network Pop TV has acquired the first and upcoming second seasons of Viaplay’s TV series Swedish Dicks.

The Swedish comedy drama produced by Viking Brothers Entertainment and Brain Academy first aired on MTG’s streaming service Viaplay in September 2016 and was the most in demand digital original in Sweden in 2016, according to TBI Vision/Parrot Analytics. Lionsgate then picked it up for world distribution. The US studio will launch it states-wide in the fall via Pop TV, its US channel jointly owned with CBS and available to over 80 million US homes.

Swedish Dicks is the only Scandi drama part of Pop TV’s 2017-2018 slate of scripted original and returning shows with marquee talent, including BBC’s hot thriller series Clique. Brad Schwartz, President of Pop TV said: “Pop has broken through with clever, character-driven scripted comedies featuring acclaimed talent in front of, and behind, the camera. Now, fresh off their blockbuster work together in Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 2, we get to bring the amazing Peter Stormare and Keanu Reeves to television in this quirky procedural comedy about the best failed detectives Los Angeles has ever seen.”

Jakob Mejlhede, MTG EVP and Head of Programming and Content Development said: “The deal with Pop TV is a fantastic recognition of the whole team behind Swedish Dicks. This was our very first Viaplay Original – so just imagine what’s coming next. MTG is on a journey to become the Nordic region’s leading producer of original content, and today we have over 50 amazing projects in the pipeline that will create unique experiences for our viewers.”

Viaplay Original’s new show Veni Vidi Vici which was launched recently at MIPDrama Screenings just premiered on the streaming service on April 13. Other upcoming shows include Alex, The Lawyer, Embassy Down, Hassel and the documentary SuperSwede.
