The Eternal Road produced by MRP Matila Röhr Productions is running in major categories such as Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor.

Also competing in the same categories is Louhimies’ war epic The Unknown Soldier, which has sold nearly one million cinema tickets, and Kaurismäki’s 2017 Silver Bear winner The Other Side of Hope.

Helsinki filmi’s Miia Haavisto, producer of The Unknown Soldier together with Mikko Tenhunen and Aku Louhimies, has two other films running for Best Film: Miami by Zaida Bergroth, running in 5 categories altogether, and Wonderland by Inari Niemi, nominated for three Jussis. The Toronto sleeper Euthanizer by Teemu Nikki is the sixth film vying for Best Film.

Surprising this year’s Finnish Oscar entry Tom of Finland by Dome Karukoski, is not represented in any major category. The film still lands 5 nominations including Best Cinematography (Lasse Frank).

Four films are vying for Best Documentary: Hobbyhorse Revolution by Selma Vilhunen, The Good Postman by Tonislav Hristov, Punk Voyage by Jukka Kärkkäinen & JP Passi and Angel of the North by Jean-Michel Roux.

Exceptionally, to celebrate the centenary of Finland’s independence, the Jussi’s selection committee set up by industry body Filmiaura, has added a nominee in each of the 16 competing categories, and the Short Film category will return for the first time since 1980.

The 38th Jussi awards will be handed out on March 23rd in Helsinki.
