Fantefilm was allocated NOK450,000 towards the promotion of their upcoming disaster film The Quake.

Currently in the middle of shooting, John Andreas Andersen’s NOK 50m (€5.2m) large scale project is set to premiere in Norway in August 2018.

The sequel to The Wave features the same characters Geologist Kristian Ekjord (Kristoffer Joner), his wife Idun (Ane Dahl Torp) and their children played by Jonas Oftebro and Edith Haagenrud-Sande. International interest is already strong as TrustNordisk has secured pre-sales to more than 20 territories including German speaking territories (Square One), Spain (Selectavision), Latin America (California) and China (DD Dream). Fantefilm producer Are Heidenstrøm said the NFI promotional grant will enable them to make The Quake ‘more visible’ during the 2018 Cannes Film Festival with ‘new and innovative marketing tools’.

A total of NOK 1 million was allocated by the Norwegian Film Institute.

Other grant recipients were:
  • documentarist Jan Dalchow for his film series The Naked Dream which received NOK250,000 towards an innovative launch on Youtube
  • Aurora Insight Media Consulting, allocated NOK300,000 for the launch of Norwegian productions at the Asia TV Forum and Market in Singapore.

Stine Helgeland, NFI Executive Director, Promotion & International Relations explained that the NOK 1 million for 2017 is part of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry’s special Fund to seven arts organisations reunited in ‘Norwegian Arts Abroad’ set up in 2016 to promote Norwegian culture and creative industries abroad. “We have granted the money within our existing schemes for the international promotion of Norwegian audiovisual productions, emphasising projects that will test new ways of reaching audiences and bring back money to the creators,” she told nordicfilmandtvnews.com. “The receivers have also committed to sharing the knowledge they gain with the rest of the industry and the NFI after they have launched their projects.”

The pilot scheme will continue in 2018 and will then be evaluated.
