MacLachlan will play US President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the WW2 drama set to start filming in December in the Czech Republic.

Inspired by true events, the eight-part series Atlantic Crossing is created and directed by Alexander Eik who wrote the script together with Linda May Kallestein.

The series tells the untold story of Norwegian crown princess Märtha, who fled the Nazis and lived in the White House, becoming an influential figure in world politics. Her close relationship to President Roosevelt will take centre stage in the series.

Eik who spent six years researching the project said Atlantic Crossing is both “a love story and a feminist story, about people who face tough challenges and are forced to change while changing the course of history.”

The series was produced by Cinenord for NRK, in co-production with SVT, DR, Yle, RUV, Sirena Films in the Czech Republic, in association with Germany’s Beta Film who handles world distribution.

The series received support from the Norwegian Film Institute and Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

Filming will move to Norway in February 2019 and the premiere on NRK is set for early 2021.
