The SACD award is given out annually by the French Society of Dramatic Actors and Composers Benedikt Erlingsson on saving the planet and #MeTooto first or second films competing at the Critics Week. Iceland’s writer/director Erlingsson shared his award with co-writer Ólafur Egill Egilsson.

Gérard Krawczyk, French director and member of the SACD said his association was proud to award Woman at War, “a film with an immense charm, a keen sense of burlesque that awakens bodies and souls, and a great lead actress.”

Erlingsson’s second film tells of Halla, an independent woman in her late 40s, who declares war on the local aluminium industry. She is prepared to take high risks to protect the Icelandic highlands, until an orphan unexpectedly enters her life.

The film received positive reviews in Cannes from leading trade publications Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Screendaily, and Icelandic actress Halldóra Geirhardsdóttir in particular was praised for her lead performance.

The Icelandic/French/Ukrainian co-production was produced by Marianne Slot, Benedikt Erlingsson, and Carine Leblanc, with support among others from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

At press time, Beta Cinema’s Thorsten Ritter told nordicfilmandtvnews.com that they had ‘literally sold out’ on the film in Cannes. Details will be announced in a few days. Woman at War opens in Iceland May 23rd.
