White Night Celebration At 2008 Eddas

Baltasar Kormákur's White Night Wedding and Óskar Jónasson's Reykjavik-Rotterdam, both produced by Kormákur's Blueeyes Productions, scooped the most Edda Awards - respectively seven and five - at last Sunday evening's annual Icelandic Film and Television Awards ceremony held in Reykjavik.

Blueeyes' White Night Wedding - Reykjavik Rotterdam Dominate Eddas

White Night Wedding (photo) which was also nominated for the Nordic Council Film Prize, is Kormákur's modern adaptation of Anton Chekhov's Ivanov won Best Film, Jónasson won Eddas for Best Director and Script, co-written with best-selling novelist Arnaldur Indriðason (Jar City). His TV drama Black Angels, supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond, just like Reykjavik -Rotterdam, won Best Leading Actress (Solveig Arnarsdottir).

Ragnar Bragason who received a Best TV Drama Edda in 2007 for The Nightshift, won another statuette this year with the follow up The Dayshift. Runar Runarsson's short film Two Birds added an Edda to its already long list of international awards, and veteran filmmaker Friðrik Þór Friðriksson was bestowed an Honorary Award.
