Record Number Of Attendees At Nordic Film Market
05.02.2010
A record 300 film and television professionals from 31 countries, eager to discover and discuss the latest works from the Nordic region, are expected this weekend at the Nordic Film Market (NFM) in Göteborg (February 4-7). Professionals attending NFM for the first time include buyers Jeff Deuchmann (IFC Films, US), Wolfgang Carl (Tiberious Films, Germany), Pim Hemerling (Wild Bunch, Netherlands), Alex ter Beek (Living Colour Entertainment, Netherlands), Takashi Niwa (Pioniwa Film, Japan) and festival programmers Jonathan Marlow (Telluride Film festival) and Peter Scarlet (the Middle East International Film festival). For them and their colleagues who made a point of making a stop over in Göteborg before heading towards Berlin, the 11th NFM is an ideal opportunity to preview the latest films from the Nordic region. This year, 18 brand new Nordic films are on the programme, as well as 17 works in progress, the highest number ever, according to NFM manager Cia Edström (photo). "There was an unusual high number of interesting Nordic films projects this year, and ten of them are feature debuts. Our aim is to help these films get a good start in their international career," she said.
Eight of the works in progress received support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond: Denmark's The Experiment by Louise Friedberg, set in 1952 Greenland, Finland's Rare Exports by Jalmari Helander and Run Sister Run (previously know as Should I Stay) by Marja Pyykkö, Norway's Norwegian Ninja by Thomas Cappelen Malling, Shameless (Maskeblomstfamiljen) by Petter Næss, and The Writing on the Wall by Stefan Faldbakken), Ola Simonsson and Johannes Stjärne Nilsson's much anticipated Swedish feature debut Sound of Noise, and Trust Me by Johan King.
The increasingly popular ‘Meeting Point Television' seminar is focusing this year on new and upcoming trends in TV drama, the success and future of Nordic crime, international co-production funding and the importance of comedy, discussed by UK personality and Oscar nominated Armando Iannucci (In the Loop). |
