Nordic Talents 2010 Programme Announced

The 10th Nordic Talents is to be held at the National Film School of Denmark in Copenhagen from 1-3 September and Nordisk Film & TV Fond has just published the Nordic Talents 2010 Catalogue with the full list of 24 graduation films, 12 pitching projects and one game from the Nordic region that will be introduced to about 200 film professionals attending. Here are the highlights and you can download the full catalogue here. 31 year-old Finnish filmmaker Juho Kuosmanen, recent winner of the top award from the Cinefondation in Cannes for his film Painting Sellers, is one of the graduating students who will pitch his first feature film project Go with the Train, to a jury of five prominent film professionals comprising Danish Director Thomas Vinterberg, Finnish Film Commissioner Kaisu Isto, Norwegian Producer Turid Øversveen (Reprise), Swedish Commissioning Editor, Drama and Culture at SVT Peter Gustafsson, and UK Producer Andy Harries (The Queen).
Go with the Train is the story of a sheltered home where people in need find refuge. Other pitching projects include Bekas by Swedish filmmaker of Kurdish origin Karzan Kader. The feature length version of his graduation short film, features two homeless Kurdish brothers who set on a mission to go to the US to meet Superman, the superhero seen at the corner cinema of their hometown. Danish animator Rickard S. Söderstrøm will present his humorous seven minute graduation film Christmas Piggy and will pitch his animation project Sonny and Ronny, a coming of age story about 21 year-old Sonny who is struggling to become successful in advertising while escaping his working class alcoholic father.
Sweden's Dramatiska Institutet and the film department at Gothenburg University have the heaviest line up of graduation film screenings (eleven fiction films) followed by the Norwegian Film School of Lillehammer (six fiction films), the National Film School of Denmark (five animation films and a game) and Aalto University School of Art and Design in Helsinki (two fiction films and a documentary).
The winners of the Nordic Talents Pitching competition will be announced on Friday September 3 at 19:30 and will receive a NOK 250.000 development grant.
On Thursday September 3 at 20:00, UK producer Andy Harries and Chief Executive at Left Bank Pictures will give the Masterclass ‘Something Strange Happened Here' where he will give his tips on how to create hits, how to avoid disasters and the alchemy of producing.
